A three-year-old toddler is fighting for her life in the North Indian city of Delhi after she was violently raped by a 40-year-old security guard who worked in the apartment building where the girl lives with her parents.

According to the local press, neighbours stumbled upon the horrific scene and proceeded to beat the security guard up. The police has since arrested the guard who suffered minor injuries from the beatings from the building residents.

The young victim has been left fighting for her life after she was found unconscious by the police. It is unclear whether the girl, who underwent emergency surgery after she was rushed to the hospital, will recover from the horror attack.

Delhi’s Women Commissioner, Swati Maliwal, shared about the girl’s condition online. She said: “She is bleeding profusely and is [very] critical. I am sitting outside the operation theatre and have just spoken to the doctors. The child is battling for her life.”

Incidentally, this latest rape attack occurred on the sixth anniversary of the “Nirbhaya” rape incident on December 16 2012. The case, which saw six men brutally gang-rape a 23-year-old female student on a moving bus who later died from her injuries, shone a spotlight at the alarming rate and severity of sex crimes in India.
