Netflix is planning to convert its most expensive movie of all time into a franchise. The streaming service announced on July 26 that The Gray Man is getting a sequel as well as a new spin-off film. The sequel will be directed by Joe and Anthony Russo and will still feature Ryan Gosling in the lead role as a CIA operative.
The script is written by Stephen McFeely. The Gray Man which came out on the weekend was the number movie in 92 countries though reviews have been mixed.
Movie directors Joe and Anthony Russo were naturally elated with the news,
“The audience reaction to The Gray Man has been nothing short of phenomenal. We are so appreciative of the enthusiasm that fans across the world have had for this film. With so many amazing characters in the movie, we had always intended for The Gray Man to be part of an expanded universe, and we are thrilled that Netflix is announcing a sequel with Ryan, as well as a second script that we’re excited to talk about soon.”
The duo are also producing a sequel to Extraction, Extraction 2 is coming out in 2023. Their production company AGBO is currently making more than a dozen television shows aside from Netflix sequels.
The spin-off will be written by Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese. It had a theatrical release on July 15, 2022 followed by its digital release on July 22.
The film stars Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, Jessica Henwick, Regé-Jean Page, Dhanush, Wagner Moura, Julia Butters, Alfre Woodard, and Billy Bob Thornton.
The plot revolves around CIA agent Sierra Six who is commissioned by Senior CIA official Donald Fitzroy to work as an assassin in the CIA’s Sierra programme. Some years later Sierra Six finds out about corruption at the highest level and Six becomes a renegade on the run.
