The movie is produced by Randall Park who told Variety magazine that it was a joy watching talented performers bring these characters to life.

“I am extremely proud to helm a movie that will finally show the world that the Asian American experience includes eating various sandwiches in diners.”

The story is based on the graphic novel by Adrian Tomine who adapted the screenplay and served as an executive producer on the film.

Before Shortcomings, Park is best known for acting and directing sitcom Fresh Off the Boat in which he stars opposite Crazy Rich Asian’s Constance Wu.
