Selena Gomez isn’t letting body shamers get her down. The singer, 30, attended the Golden Globe Awards on Jan 10 in a strapless deep purple Valentino gown that looked amazing on her but she was body shamed because she didn’t look as slim as she normally does.

With photos of her at the event circulating, trolls got vicious and were quick to comment on her figure. To her credit the singer and actress didn’t let the hate get to her and openly spoke about her weight gain during an Instagram livestream after the award ceremony.

Body Shamers Beware

In the clip which has been posted on Tick Tok Gomez explains why she gained some weight after the holidays and said there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

“I’m a little bit big right now because I enjoyed myself during the holidays,” she said.

“Right?”, she added turning to her 9 year old sister.

She received support from a number of online followers, with one posting;

“She’s LIVING, as she should” while another one said “She looks happy and healthy and that’s all that should matter!”

Similarly earlier in the month Gomez shared photos of her New Year celebration and was again lambasted on how she looked in a swimsuit.

The singer, 30 had been on holiday in Cabo San Luca with Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz and were enjoying a yacht trip when she was photographed. The photo which appeared on Twitter had harsh comments though. Some of these included the following;

“She’s gotta lose some weight she looking tubby,” and

“Wow, pack on the pounds or what,” and

“OH SHE’S HUGEE’ and,

“The pop girlie who’s aging the worse, I fear [sic].”

But many people also came to her support, with one fan saying “She’s perfect the way she is.”

Be Myself

This isn’t the first or second time Gomez has received brick bats about her weight from body shamers. In an interview with Glamour magazine she said, “It’s hard to feel comfortable when you feel like everyone is watching, judging and commenting on the way you look. From the time I can remember, I’ve always felt like I had to be perfect or look a certain way. It took me a long time to realise that I only wanted to be myself – that what made me unique was also what made me beautiful.”

In April last year she made a Tik Tok video with a strong message to body shamers.

“So I’ve been trying to stay skinny but I went to Jack in the Box and I got four tacos, three egg rolls, onion rings and a spicy chicken sandwich. But honestly, I don’t care about my weight because people bitch about it anyway. ‘You’re too small, ‘you’re too big’, ‘that doesn’t fit.’ Bitch, I am perfect the way I am.”
