Though Elon Musk is a billionaire he is finding himself in trouble after a San Francisco office landlord is suing social media giant Twitter for failure to pay rent.
Twitter owed Columbia Property Trust, the building owner, nearly $136,260 in unpaid rent, and filed a lawsuit last Thursday.
Twitter’s failure to pay rent was first reported about a month and a half after Elon Musk acquired the company for $44 billion, following a series of messy skirmishing in court.
People who have knowledge of the matter told The New York Times that Musk has been trying to renegotiate the terms of the lease agreement amid mass layoffs and downsizing.
The downsizing continued on Friday, with Twitter closing its Seattle offices, cutting janitorial and security services.
Likewise, cleaning and security staff were laid off from the company’s New York and San Francisco offices. In its San Francisco office, Musk reduced the company’s office space from four floors to two.
Expensive San Francisco?
Here are some reactions from netizens:
trumpdesantis2024!! – Landlord should’ve renegotiated the contract. Commercial real estate in San Francisco has to be abundant in this Biden economy with skyrocketing prices and interest rates.
The landlord will spend more money in legal fees instead of being paid. Not to mention the time spent in court and the injunction against eviction that will be granted.”
Bendicat854 – Pay the rent, buy a little time to move & suggest it be in another state. I would think Twitter can be run from anywhere.
throwaway53456 – Twitter was being used by the FBI to silence political opinions they didn’t like. How can anyone think that’s OK? So many comments hoping Musk loses money or fails. Do you really want the government in control of what you can hear or say?
drheywood – Downsizing from 4 floors to 2 floors is definitely a good way to cut cost and that is what he is doing since he not employing a bunch of people that just sat around all day doing nothing but attack conservatives.
humorme – Elon should pay the rent owed, then move Twitter’s HQ out of California.
digitalage4wokenbroke – You need almost ZERO people to run Twitter. It’s all databases and scripts. The real “workforce” are the woke admins trying to censor anything they don’t like. Anything they don’t like.
