Popular South Korean boy band BTS made headlines again yesterday (April 3) for hitting the 1.1 billion mark with its latest music video, Idol.

Also known as the Bangtan Boys, BTS crossed 1.1 billion views on YouTube last night. This is the fifth time the group has achieved this.

Idol was launched on August 24, 2018 which means it took over three years, seven months and 10 days to achieve this milestone.

The other four videos that have achieved this are DNA, Boy With Luv, Mic Drop (Steve Aoki Remix) and Dynamite.

Dynamite currently holds the record for the fastest music video from a Korean group to reach one billion views.

Idol was released by Big Hit Entertainment as the lead single from the group’s third compilation album Love Yourself: Answer.

The song also has an alternative version which features Nicki Minaj as a bonus track. The single made its debut at number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 and both versions sold 43,000 downloads in the first week of its sale in the United States.

BTS was formed in 2010 and the septet comprises of Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V and Jungkook.

The group has tasted success not just in Korea but also internationally and currently holds the status of the biggest boy band.
