Kirstie Alley

Actress Kirstie Alley died of cancer on Nov 5 at her home. She was 71 years old. Her death was confirmed through her official social media channel in which her children posted the following:

“To all our friends, far and wide around the world… We are sad to inform you that our incredible, fierce and loving mother has passed away after a battle with cancer, only recently discovered. She was surrounded by her closest family and fought with great strength, leaving us with a certainty of her never-ending joy of living and whatever adventures lie ahead. As iconic as she was on screen, she was an even more amazing mother and grandmother.

Kirstie Alley was best known for playing Rebbeca Howe in the hit comedy series Cheers opposite Ted Danson. She replaced Shelley Long and later won an Emmy for her role. She also starred in Look Who’s Talking with Bruce Willis and John Travolta.  She started her film career in 1982 with the film Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and also acted in the 1985 miniseries North and South.

Travolta paid tribute to his co-star in an Instagram post saying, “Kirstie was one of the most special relationships I’ve ever had. I love you Kirstie. I know we will see each other again.”

In her later years Kirstie Alley battled with weight gain and chronicled her journey in the film Fat Actress in 2005.  She also appeared on the reality show Dancing With the Stars.
