A four-year-old girl in the North Indian state of Uttar Pradesh was brutally gang-raped by a hospital employee and four others, at the Intensive Care Unit at a private hospital located 155 miles southwest of the state capital.

The toddler had been undergoing treatment for a snake bite, when she was violently attacked on Saturday night, according to the local press.

According to police official Mahesh Srivastava, the toddler told her grandmother what had happened after the attack. The child’s grandmother swiftly informed the police who have caught one suspect and are hunting for the others involved.

The police department has also requested surveillance footage from the hospital and are trying to find out why the toddler was left alone in the ward.

India has established a reputation for being the rape capital of the world, with a high number of sexual crimes being committed against children sparking outrage within and beyond the nation.

Earlier this year, the Indian Government passed a law allowing those who are convicted for raping a child under the age of 12 to death.
