It appears that 80’s style horror films are all the rage now and the revival is partly thanks to Netflix’s Stranger Things which has produced a resurgence of this genre.

Consequently chicken king KFC has produced its own version of a mini horror film in Spain titled La Massacre and it features killer pizza.

The 14 minute film tells the story of five teenagers who travel to a remote cabin in the woods to enjoy a weekend away from home but once there they are constantly chased by a terrifying apparition that is shaped like … yes you guessed it- a pizza.

The campaign is part of the fast food chain’s promotion of its limited edition pizza called Pollizza which features melted mozzarella and pepperoni on top.

Spanish filmmaker NYSU directed the clip, “We were always clear that we didn’t want to make a parody of the genre, nor make fun of it but to make an incredible piece that respected the codes and rules of the B series, That’s why the most complicated thing was to escape from the ‘vice’ of advertising, where perfection is sought in every shot,” he said.

A preview of the film was held on July 7 at Cinesa Proyecciones in Fuencarral, Madrid for journalists and film critics after which it was released on the brand’s Twitch channel.

Posters promoting the film which was designed to look like an old-style horror movie were also put up in the city. An interesting feature was that the pizza boxes that appeared in the film contained an active number where 2,500 people were able to call to order a Pollizza as part of the promotion.

The film was viewed more than 100,000 times on Twitch and YouTube with social media activity making it available to 13 million people according to KFC. The preview for the film will also be showcased in cinemas until July 31.

The Pollizza was initially released in KFC restaurants across Spain in June and will be available until August 15.
