Hong Kong actor Lin Gengxin has been in the limelight for his weight gain of late with fans criticizing him saying that he had become an oily middle-aged man.

The star who is currently filming a historical drama titled The Legend of Shenli with Zanilia Zhao Liying took the criticism positively and it motivated him to get back in shape.

The 34-year old actor dropped 12 pounds returning to his peak 2017 shape in the film Princess Agents.

Netizens were amazed at the transformation when they saw some of the sneak preview photos of the film. One netizen commented, “I thought it was hopeless-I can’t believe he actually lost all that weight! Thank you for restoring my anticipation for your new drama- I don’t think I could watch it if you continue to look like a ball.”

Another comment said, “Beauty is the foundation of historical idol dramas; losing weight is the right move!” and “Your looks have returned to your peak during Princess Agents! As long as you are motivated, anything is possible!”

The weight loss led to Gengxin’s exercise and diet plan becoming a highly popular search on Weibo. He said that whole food was the focus of the diet, and every meal consisted of protein, vegetables and a small amount of carbohydrates without seasoning. He would often eat chicken breast, lean pork, boiled eggs, celery, red cabbage, and green vegetables.

The actor also listed water as his secret weapon. He said that he would always have a bowl of water to wash his food to get rid of extra salt and oil. He added that washed food may not taste good but it definitely reduced the burden that seasoning has on the body.

In addition to maintaining a stringent diet, he also ran, lifted weights and did push ups and pull up to train his physique. Occasionally, he would play a game of basketball or badminton with friends.

He said that exercise also helped him increase the body’s basal metabolic rate which allowed him to return to his peak physique.
