A distressed mother from Oregan, a coastal U.S. state in the Pacific Northwest, is suspected of fatally shooting her severely disabled 7-year-old boy to death. She then tried to kill herself with an overdose of pills The 28-year-old mother, Tashina Jordan, is now in the hospital with a “life-threatening condition”.

Emergency crews responded to a report of an unconscious woman in the city of Bend on Monday evening. They discovered the body of Jordan’s son, Mason, at the site of the incident. The boy is severely disabled and had cerebral palsy and hydrocephalus, a condition in which there is an accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) within the brain. This typically causes increased pressure inside the skull. The Police said that the mother’s notes led them to believe she was the sole suspect in Mason’s shooting.

A family member and first responders performed life-saving efforts on Jordan, and she was taken the hospital. Local news reports say that Mason was 5 weeks old when he suffered heart failure and two brain bleeds, which left him disabled.

“He’s a miracle child. He wasn’t supposed to make it,” said Jordan in a 2016 news report.
