Sampras

Former professional tennis player Pete Sampras says his wife, Bridgette Wilson-Sampras is suffering from ovarian cancer.

Sampras say that he wants to share his wife’s diagnosis and did so on Twitter saying that last year had been particularly challenging for his family as his wife was diagnosed in December last year. He also said that since then she has had major surgery and chemotherapy as well.

It is hard to watch someone you love go through a challenge like this. However seeing our boys step up and be such strong supports of Bridgette, myself and each other has been amazing. Watching Bridgette continue to be an incredible mom and wife through it all has been inspiring.”

He also asked for support from the public as he said that their experience over the last one year has been difficult to talk about.

Wilson has appeared as Veronica Vaughan in the film Billy Madison. She also played Adam Sandler’s love interest in Billy. She used to act in pre-teen comedy Saved By the Bell and soap opera Santa Barbara in the 80s and 90s. More recently she starred in The Wedding Planner.

The couple have been married 23 years and have two children, Christian, 20 and Ryan, 18. They got married in the year 2000 after dating for nine months.

Sampras wrote about his wife in his biography titled Pete Sampras: Greatness Revisited which was written by Steve Flink.

In the book he said that one of the reasons he chose Wilson as his wife is because of how she had the same feelings as him when it came to starting a family.

Bridgette always wanted to be a mother,” Sampras said of his wife. “That is why I knew she was the one for me. She loved her work and was very good at it and did 30 movies, but ultimately she wanted to be a wife and mom and not be pulled in other directions. She couldn’t imagine sitting in a makeup trailer for herself, doing movies, and missing something with the kids. It is rare to find that in this town.”
