Seinfeld

Remember the mailman on Seinfeld? The character who played Newman the mailman on the show is quite memorable to many but the actor Wayne Knight said that Seinfeld derailed his movie career.

In an interview with Vice by Twitter/radio personality Seinfeld2000, Knight said, “It practically obliterated my film career in some ways… because by being on something that iconic and being known for that character, it made it much more difficult as a character actor to disappear into film”.

Seinfeld Vs Newman

The problem is that he had become so well known that if anyone were to cast him in any film or movie they would think of Newman straight away and the context of his new role would be lost.

Despite this however Knight did get a few roles in films like Jurassic Park, Basic Instinct, Space Jam and some others. More recently he appeared in Hulu’s Darby and the Dead.

He will also soon star in a short film titled What Ever Happened to Johnny Faith. The short is a drama about a country singer who tries to make amends with his son after disappearing 30 years ago. The short is written and directed by Benjamin Pollack and will star Debbi Pollack, Frank Noon, Bruce Greenwood, Alexandra Wrigth, Margo Parker and Ashley Lauren Nedd.

Seinfeld continues to remain popular despite ending in 1998. It is available on Netflix.

Larry David

Its creator Larry David went on to make Curb Your Enthusiasm which also features cameos from the Seinfeld cast. The show’s female star Julia-Louis Dreyfus has also won several Emmy awards for her role in Veep and appeared in Marvel Cinematic Universe as the character of Valentina Allegra de Fontaine.

Another popular character George Costanza played by Jason Alexander in the sitcom also went on to star in similar television and film roles but nothing as big as Seinfeld.

Jerry Seinfeld himself is currently directing and producing a film about the origin of Pop-Tarts. He is also has a role in Unfrosted which features a star studded cast comprising Rachael Harris, Melissa McCarthy, Hugh Grant, Christian Slater, James Marsden, Maria Bakalova and Max Greenfield.
