Manila, Aug. 27 — BACOLOD CITY – Three persons were killed after the tricycle they were riding collided with a truck in Barangay Bata here on Friday, Aug. 26.

Police identified the victims as Marciano Mahilum Jr., 40, his 17-year-old daughter (name withheld), and his brother-in-law Reynald Porras, 35, all residents of Barangay Matab-ang, Talisay City, Negros Occidental.

Police Staff Sgt. Richard Dema-ala, traffic investigator of Police Station 3, said the victims were on their way home on board a tricycle driven by Mahilum when they allegedly tried to overtake a truck.

However, another truck driven by Ervie de Pedro of Bago City, was approaching on the opposite lane.

Mahilum allegedly tried to execute a left turn to avoid the approaching truck, but it was too late, Dema-ala said. De Pedro’s driven truck then hit the side of the tricycle, he added.

Dema-ala said that Porras died on the spot, while Mahilum passed away at Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital here.

The following day, Mahilum’s daughter also passed away in a private hospital here, Dema-ala said.
