Gordon Ramsay

Americans are going to get a chance to enjoy some traditional British fare as Gordon Ramsay has opened the Gordon Ramsay Fish & Chips right in the middle of Times Square, New York. The outlet is located at 1500, 7th Avenue.

The restaurant is the fourth in the United States with the other three located in Washington D.C, Las Vegas and Orlando.

The menu offers traditional pub classics alongside fish and chips. The fish combo features crispy cod, natural sea salt chips and a choice of two sauces. Shrimp and chicken is also available with the same combination.

Some new twists and fusions are also on the menu, notably the fishwich, a fish sandwich in naan bread served with avocado sauce, shredded cabbage and tomato relish.

Other similar dishes include a chickenwich made with chicken tenders wrapped in naan, cabbage slaw, sliced Roma tomatoes, house-made pickles and seasoning and dirty chips with bacon, cheddar cheese, green onions and sour cream.

For dessert, there’s the mouth watering sticky toffee shake topped with fresh whipped cream and the Biscoff cookie with whipped cream to look forward to.

Featuring typically British pub fare the menu is designed to be simple and limited as the focus is on traditional British favourites.

New York City is one of the greatest cities in the world, the energy is unmatched, and I’m thrilled to be bringing Fish & Chips here. Fish & Chips is a taste of home to me, and we’ve found a way to elevate that classic dish, dress it up and really modernize the experience for diners.

“I’ve had 3 stars in Chelsea for over two decades, 2 stars in France, restaurants around the globe – but my mum is most proud of the chippy.”

That said, Gordon Ramsay has drawn some flak for the high price he charges for this very basic dish. The dish costs £24.50 per plate and comes with minted peas and warm tartar sauce. Fries are extra at £7 or £9 and are served with bonito salt.

At least that was the price that was quoted on The River Restaurant by Gordon Ramsay which opened at the Savoy Hotel in London on October 11 last year.

In November last year, the Michelin starred chef made headlines when he charged $106 for a burger, that too without the fries which he said would cost an extra $8 at his Gordon Ramsay Burger outlet in London.

The dish comprised of a beef patty, seared Wagyu sirloin, Pecorino cheese, cep mayonnaise and fresh black truffles.
