Thai YouTuber Wanchaleom Jamneanphol may face charged for calling a dress designed by Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana and worn by Miss Universe Thailand Sophida Kanchanarin “ugly”.
Charges have been filed against the influencer by millionaire businessman and aspiring politician Kitjanut Chaiyosburana who called the YouTuber’s post “irresponsible behaviour”. He added: “I cannot accept that a well-known individual in the online world expressed negative opinions that affect the country’s reputation.”
Jamneanphol has since deleted her post and clarified that she “did not have any intention to insult or disrespect the high institution. I merely did not know the full consequences of my actions via my posts and comments, which caused damage to Your Royal Highness and the monarchy.”
Under Article 112 of Thailand’s criminal code, those who are convicted for insulting or defaming the royal family or the regent may face 3 to 15 years in jail.
