French actor Gerard Depardieu who was indicted for assault in a 2018 case is alleging that he is not a predator.
In a letter in Le Figaro on October 1, the actor talked about the incidents which occurred a few years ago in an open letter.
“I can no longer allow what I hear, what I have read about myself over several months. I thought I didn’t care, but no, actually no. This all gets to me. Worse still, it wipes me out.”
Depardieu said of the 2018 incident where Charlotte Arnould accused him of rape was totally erroneous.
He said a woman came to his home the first time and willingly stepped into his bedroom. “Today she says she was raped there.”
“She came a second time. There was no constraint, no violence, no protest. She wants to sing with me the songs by Barbara at the Cirque d’Hiver. I said ‘no’ and she filed a complaint,” states the actor in the letter.
Depardieu and film projects
The actor who was indicted in December 2020 has not faced any custodial sentence and in fact has continued to get high profile film projects. However after that, his career took a big hit after he was accused of sexual misconduct by more than 13 women including female actors, make-up artists and production staff. None of the 13 women have taken legal action as such.
The incidents were said to have occurred between 2004 and 2022 film at a which time he acted in 11 films.
One stark testimony by a former extra given to Mediapart when he was filming The Box stated that he was aggressive and put his hand under her dress and tried to get into her knickers. After that she started pushing him and he became even more aggressive and tried to push my knickers to one side to finger her.
Mediapart said that the production team had to pause for a few days because of what happened to the extra.
In the letter he states, he can’t consent to what is being said about him. He also said that at first he thought he didn’t care about the bad press but he does. The actor added that he has never abused a woman. “Hurting a woman would be like kicking the womb of my own mother.”
