How is it that some people are so lucky that they never catch a cold or hardly get sick? Well here are some tips to figure out how their immune systems seem to be better. (Excerpt from the Jerusalem Post)

  1. Drink a lot of water

The first in the list of heathy habits is to drink a lot of water. This is something that is highly recommended but not always followed. Six to eight glasses a days is needed to satisfy the body’s basic needs. Drinking enough water gives the body fuel to fight diseases. Not drinking enough makes it hard for the body to function properly.

  1. Get your flu shot

It doesn’t matter if you’ve been vaccinated or not, getting your flu shot is important as seasonal flu strains change every year.

  1. Get enough sleep

Sleep is medicinal for the boy. According to a study from Germany, sleep is sometimes the best medicine for complex medical conditions – thanks to the potential ability of the immune system to protect against disease-causing pathogens. Lack of sleep can also affect your mood, weight and cognitive ability. This definitely contribute as to healthy habits.

  1. Change your hand towels frequently

Exposure to bacteria from hand towels cannot be underestimated. Skin infections, damage to digestion and other internal systems and infection can occur.

  1. Exercise

Exercise plays a crucial role in immune system strength. T cells and B cells decrease as we age exposing out bodies to external and internal threats. Moderate to vigorous physical activity reduces the risk of upper respiratory tract infections.

  1. Spend time outdoors

Vitamin D is essential for maintaining your immune system and protecting yourself against viral diseases. The best way to do this is through absorption of sun rays into your skin.

7. Spend time with friends

According to research, relationships with friends are more important to your health than relationships with family. People have said that when their friendships are in crisis they got sicker. When friendships are strong and supportive people become healthier.

  1. Drink hot water and eat hot foods

Hot drinks, traditional chicken soup and general hot food helps the body recover from colds and flu viruses.  For those who live in colder climates it also helps fight seasonal winter flu. Hot beverages and meals stimulates blood circulation so go for that hot chocolate if you feel like it or opt for a healthy cinnamon tea if you want less calories. Another one we think may also get us in good shape with healthy habits.

  1. Eat healthy

Load up on fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans and nuts and you can’t go wrong. Enrich the body with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Foods that improve the activity of the digestive system and intestines, such as yoghurt and orange vegetables like sweet potatoes and pumpkin are also excellent.

  1. Be positive

Last but not least is an optimistic mindset. Life is hard and at times very challenging but focus on the good stuff and learn to be happier and healthier. Stress and other mental health issues often exacerbate physical ailments.
