Ed Sheeran is known for his careful planning, as revealed in a recent interview with GQ Hype. During the interview, Sheeran addressed rumors about a crypt on his English estate, clarifying that it’s not a crypt but a chapel. This chapel serves as a place for him to remember and mourn loved ones who have passed away, and he also hosts weddings for his friends there.

As the chapel was being constructed, Sheeran realized that he wanted to be laid to rest there so that his daughters, Lyra and Jupiter, would have a place to remember him when the time comes. He described it as a simple hole in the ground with a stone covering, where he plans to rest after his passing. Sheeran acknowledged that some may find this unusual or morbid, but he has witnessed friends passing away without wills, leaving confusion about their final wishes.

Ed Sheeran experiencing grief

The “Shivers” singer has been open about his experiences with grief. In 2021, he lost his mentor Michael Gudinski and paid tribute to him at a memorial service in Australia. In the following year, his close friend Jamal Edwards passed away at the age of 31, and he also mourned the loss of his friend Shane Warne in 2022.

Ed Sheeran, who recently released “Autumn Variations,” has also shared his struggles with mental health. He explained how his album “Subtract” underwent a significant transformation in 2022. While he had spent a decade crafting the perfect acoustic album, life events in early 2022, including his wife Cherry Seaborn’s health issues, Jamal’s death, and a plagiarism lawsuit regarding his song “Shape of You,” led to a profound shift in his perspective.

Creating music based on experiences

Writing songs became a form of therapy for him, allowing him to make sense of his feelings during this challenging time. He wrote candidly and without constraints, replacing years of work with his deepest emotions in just over a week. Sheeran shared how these personal challenges led to feelings of fear, depression, and anxiety, making him feel as though he was struggling to stay afloat. Despite these difficulties, he continued to create music and reflect on his experiences.
