U.S. gymnast Jordan Chiles, 22 years old, achieved yet another dream by leading the U.S. women’s gymnastics team to not only secure a place in the continental final but also to clinch a coveted gold medal.
With a staggering 165.196 points, the U.S. dominated the all-around women’s competition, marking their sixth consecutive women’s team Pan American gold medal, and Chiles played a pivotal role in this remarkable achievement.

After receiving her gold medal, an elated Chiles shared her excitement with journalists, saying, “There’s so many more dreams in this little body of mine. It was really cool to be the flagbearer, then coming out here to win gold with an amazing team.”
Jordan Chiles faced fierce competition from her main rival, Kayla DiCello, Zoe Miller, Kaliya Lincoln, and Tiana Sumanasekera, who represented the U.S. But on the other side, Brazil’s team, led by Olympic gold medalist Rebeca Andrade, also posed a formidable challenge.

Rebeca Andrade, the 24-year-old Brazilian gymnastics sensation and friend of Simone Biles, is determined to pose a significant challenge to Chiles once again in the individual finals. Andrade, Brazil’s most decorated gymnast in history, is participating in the Pan American Games for the first time and has her sights set on future Olympic glory.
As both the U.S. and Brazil showcased their gymnastic prowess in Santiago, it’s expected that they will continue to battle for medals in women’s gymnastics at the Paris Olympics.
The U.S. Gymnastics Federation summed up the intense rivalry between Andrade and Biles by posting a picture of the two champions side by side on their social media channels, with the message, “Many more battles still to come.”
