Miriam Margolyes may be famous in her own right having been acting for decades but she said she finds it strange that she is only known for her role in the Harry Potter films.

The actress who is now 81, played the popular and beloved Professor Sprout in Harry Potter’s Chamber of Secrets and in The Deathly Hallows – Part 2.

She said in an interview with My Weekly magazine, “It’s an odd feeling to know that, whatever else I do, I will go to my grave best known for playing Professor Pomona Sprout in two of the Harry Potter movies. It made a great difference to my career, making me more famous than I ever thought possible. Fans follow me in the street, people ask to have their photographs taken – selfies as the call them – standing next to Professor Sprout”

Miriam Margolyes herself isn’t terribly excited about the role she played as it wasn’t that difficult at all for her.

“In terms of my development as an artist, playing Professor Sprout wasn’t all that important because it was well within my capabilities as an actress. But in terms of marketability, it made an enormous difference.”

The actress is however concerned about remembering lines for future roles as she grows older.

“My main fear about growing old as an actor is not losing the looks. I never had any to speak of, and what I had I’ve still got – but losing the memory is another matter.”

The actress has also come under fire in several instances for not having a filter when she speaks.
