Navaratri is a major Hindu festival celebrating the goddess Shakti, who embodies divine energy and power. The word "Navaratri" comes from two Sanskrit words: 'nava' meaning nine, and 'ratri' meaning nights. The festival is celebrated over nine nights and ten days.
The most commonly observed Navaratri is the Sharada Navaratri, which falls in the Hindu month of Purattasi (usually September-October).
