The latest workout trend appears to be the 3-2-8 workout and apparently, it’s so simple it’s quite addictive if what people say on TikTok is anything to go by. It’s also an excellent way to boost muscle strength and metabolism.

The workout method was curated by personal trainer and Pilates instructor Natalie Rose.

What is it

The 3-2-8 workout incorporates three barre/Pilates workouts each week, two days of strength training and 8,000 steps a day.

“If you’re ready to get in the best shape of your life, start the 3-2-8 method. I started it when I came off birth control and gained loads of weight. I didn’t really know what to do, and I didn’t get very good advice from the doctors. All they suggested I do is start some low-impact training and reduce my cortisol levels or go back on birth control, which I didn’t want to do,” said Rose.

Rose said she then took her health into her own hands and found a method which works for her body and also allows her to stay consistent because she is not burned out by the end of it. A breakdown of the 3-2-8 method looks something like this; (below table is an excerpt from Eat This, Not That)

Monday: Total body strength workout

Tuesday: Lower-body barre workout

Wednesday: Power walk

Thursday: Lower body strength workout

Friday: Barre or Pilates workout

Saturday: 10 minute Pilates workout

Founder of PTPioneer.com Tyler Read said that there are a few reasons why this is an effective method to get fit. Barre/Pilates workouts are great for muscle toning and flexibility, core strength and remain low impact while reducing wear and tear on your joints.

“The two strength workouts will help with muscle building, increasing bone density and general functional fitness for day-to-day activity. Finally walking 8,000 steps a day [supports] great cardiovascular health, burns more calories and can help improve mental health by reducing stress and releasing endorphins,” said Read.

The combination of strength-cardio and a group fitness class offers multiple benefits compared to just one type of workout.
