The captivating black-and-white music video, masterfully directed by Phil Griffin, transports viewers into the depths of Winehouse’s emotional landscape as she navigates a funeral procession symbolizing the demise of a tumultuous romance.
Among a gathering of mourners, she stands by, witnessing the burial of what could have been, with a gravestone bearing the inscription “R.I.P. the Heart of Amy Winehouse.” This poignant imagery, however, was later altered, following her untimely demise in 2011, when she succumbed to the ravages of alcohol poisoning at the tender age of 27.
“Back to Black,” a timeless anthem of heartache and longing, was penned collaboratively by Winehouse and Mark Ronson. The song draws inspiration from the turbulent relationship between Winehouse and her ex-husband, Blake Fielder-Civil. Their love story was fraught with ups and downs, including Fielder-Civil’s brief departure for an ex-girlfriend, which preceded their eventual reconciliation and wedding in 2007. Sadly, their union ended in divorce in 2009.

Originally released on her 2007 album of the same name, “Back to Black” initially charted at No. 25 on the UK Singles Chart. However, it soared to No. 8 after Winehouse’s tragic passing, solidifying its status as one of her most iconic hits.
Last year, Mark Ronson offered a poignant glimpse into the creation of Back to Black in a TikTok video, where he shared previously unheard raw vocal takes from the legendary neo-soul songstress.
In the video, Ronson fondly reminisces, “Hi, I’m Mark Ronson. For those of you who might not know me, I wrote the song ‘Back to Black’ with Amy Winehouse some 15 years ago at this exact piano right here.” He takes viewers on a journey through time, recounting their initial meeting and the profound connection he felt with Winehouse.
Since its posting, Ronson’s TikTok revelation has garnered an astonishing 4.7 million views and nearly a million likes on the social media platform.
