Cathay Pacific airline misspells own name on side of plane

Hong Kong carrier Cathay Pacific had to send one of their airplanes “back to the shop” after its own name was misspelled on the side of the plane. The blunder made Cathay Pacific become Cathay “Paciic” after leaving the letter “f” off of the word “Pacific”.

In response to eagle-eyed netizens who spotted the error, Cathay Pacific said on Twitter: “Oops this special livery won’t last long! She’s going back to the shop!”

One Twitter user Aghiad Haloul replied: “No f’s were given that day.” Another netizen called HK Phil said : “If they can get this obviously (it) makes you wonder about the important engineering on the plane!”

Some others, however, praised the airline for taking the error in good spirits. Netizen Vimal Rai wrote: “Great that you can have a laugh about this in public. Air travel needs to lighten up. Kudos.”

An engineer for Cathay Pacific’s sister company Haeco, however, raised doubts about the error. He told Hong Kong’s South China Morning Post: “The spacing is too on-point for a mishap. There should be a blank gap in between letters if it was a real mistake I think.”
