Paris chief Tony Estanguet has responded to Coe’s ‘Lumpy’ Paris Tickets remarks.

Paris Chief Tony Estanguet: ‘Prices are within the norm for such an exceptional experience’

Tony Estangue has now retaliated, asserting that, after accounting for inflation and exchange rates, their most expensive and cheapest Games tickets, at €990 and €24, respectively, actually cost less than at the London Olympics.

Estanguet argued that with inflation, the €20 tickets to the London Olympics would have been €27 and that the maximum price of  £725 would have been €1,000 today, which is pricier than theirs.

“I think our prices are within the norm for such an exceptional experience,” Coe said.

He also said their prices were well within their goal of making the events as ‘accessible to many people as possible.’ He said that he wanted it to be packed just like everybody else and for the celebration to be memorable and great.

He also refuted the notion that some venues would not fill up because the price range is so high that people can not afford to come.

What were WA President Coe’s remarks?

Earlier this month, World Athletics President Sebastian Coe blasted the Paris Olympics organizers for charging exorbitant fees for the tickets. He claimed that the athletics section’s prices are the ‘most costly’ the public has ever seen at an Olympic Games. He also mentioned the ‘lumpy’ costs and contrasted them to World Athletics Championships tickets, which he said were far more inexpensive.

He went on to explain that, while pricey tickets would always be available, it is critical that supporters of the sport fill the stadiums rather than people who “can afford to get to an Olympics.”

Coe isn’t the only one, however, who finds the ticket prices astronomically high. In fact, some X users have ranted about it online.

One X user tagged the Olympics in her post and asked why the tickets for the Paris Olympics were so “disgracefully high.”

Another chimed in and shared that they’ve been to previous editions of the Olympics in Athens, Beijing and London, however, for the last few years, they’ve been “priced out of attending.”

Another X user noted that due to the high expense of tickets and lodging, some sporting venues have been only partially occupied.
