Girls’ Generation’s Taeyeon’s latest album tops iTunes chart worldwide

Taeyeon of Girls’ Generation’s new album ‘Purpose’ has topped several international iTunes charts securing the No.1 spot.

‘Purpose’ is her second studio album which was released on Oct 28. The album took the No. 1 spot in 21 countries including Brazil, Mexico, Singapore, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Vietnam and more.

Taeyeon’s title track, ‘Spark’ also topped the real-time music charts in Korea, with the accompanying music video achieving the No.1 spot on the Korean MV chart of China’s largest music site, QQ Music.

Featuring Taeyeon’s impressive vocals over a powerful melody, ‘Spark’ is an alternative soul-pop genre track. The single’s lyrics allude to a spark to express Taeyeon’s identity and vision as an artist.

30-year-old Taeyeon was a trainee at SM Entertainment’s Starlight Academy during her middle school years. In 2007, she debuted as a member of K-pop girl group Girls’ Generation.

Girls’ Generation rose to fame in the Asian music scene and Taeyeon participated in SM Entertainment projects such as Girls’ Generation-TTS, SM the Ballad and Girls’ Generation-Oh!GG.

Taeyeon also recorded soundtrack songs for several TV dramas and movies popular on South Korean charts.

She will sing the Korean OST cover of ‘Into the Unknown”’ for Disney’s upcoming film, ‘Frozen 2’.

Disney Korea posted an Instagram post on October 29 announcing, “The Korean cover song artist is multi-talented vocalist Taeyeon who you trust and listen to. We’re already excited for our ears to be happy this winter! Grand reveal of ‘Frozen 2’ art poster of Taeyeon.” They added hashtags, “Into the Unknown,” “Don’t be afraid,” and “Grand premiere in November.”

In 2015, Taeyeon debuted her solo career with her first extended play (EP) named I, which peaked at number two on South Korea’s Gaon Album Chart. The title track was a number-one hit on the Gaon Digital Chart.
