BAFTA tea party

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were not invited to the British Academy Film Awards – BAFTA Tea Party in Los Angeles as executives in London felt that it would be a public relations disaster.

The Daily Mail reported that the couple were absent from the showbiz event after the release of Prince Harry’s Spare book.

The duo were openly snubbed because of the fallout from the book. A BAFTA consultant told The Sun, “BAFTA decided it was a terrible idea. They thought it would be a PR disaster. Prince Harry, in his book and docuseries, has roundly attacked the Royal Family.” Hence, no BAFTA tea party!

Harry’s brother William who is now in a very public feud with him thanks to the book also happens to be president of BAFTA. “Any interviews would go viral. Anything negative on William would be devastating,” said the consultant on some reasons why they are not invited to attend the BAFTA tea party.

The awards were also attended by other celebrities like Kate Hudson and Cate Blanchett. The tea party according to the website, “…. Is a long tradition of recognizing the very best filmmaking talent and is hugely popular with nominees seeking a respite from hectic and demanding Awards season.”

Meanwhile Harry and Meghan are also unhappy about television host Jeremy Clarkson’s apology for an article he wrote condemning Meghan Markle earlier. He apologized on January 16 for the article he wrote in the Sun in December. He also shared in an Instagram post on Christmas Day that he had emailed Harry and Meghan in California to apologise to them.

However a spokesperson for Harry and Meghan said that the Christmas letter was only addressed to Harry.

“While a new public apology has been issued today by Mr Clarkson, what remains to be addressed is his long-standing pattern of writing articles that spread hate rhetoric, dangerous conspiracies theories and misogyny. Unless each of his other pieces were also written ‘in a hurry’ it is clear that this is not an isolated incident shared in haste, but rather a series of articles shared in hate,” said the spokesperson.

Clarkson’s apology

Clarkson’s apology letter reads as follows, “One of the strange things I’ve noticed in recent times is that whenever an MP or a well-known person is asked to apologise for something, no matter how heartfelt or profound that apology may be, it’s never enough for the people who called for it in the first place.”

So I’m going to try and buck the trend this morning with an apology for the things I said in a Sun column recently about Meghan Markle. I really am sorry. All the way from the balls of my feet to the follicles on my head. This is me putting my hands up. It’s a mea culpa with bells on,”  said Clarkson.

He claims that he didn’t really read over what he had written and was “home alone” and “in a hurry” so he “just pressed send” when he was finished with the story.
