Former Take That singer and British pop sensation will soon have a documentary about him on Netflix. The multi part series will launch in 2023 and according to the synopsis promises to be an “unfiltered, in-depth examination of a global icon and natural-born entertainer who had to navigate the highs and lows of being in the limelight for more than 30 years.
“It will cover Robbie navigating media scrutiny through his career, adulation, addiction, professional and personal break-ups, reunions, recovery and the impact they have had on his mental health.”
William split Take That in 1995 when he decided to go solo. The show will be produced by Asif Kapadia who won an Oscar for his feature film/documentary titled Amy on the life story of Amy Winehouse. The documentary will be directed by Joe Pearlman who is best known for Bros After Screaming Stops.
The series which is yet to be named will feature 25 years of never before seen archive material plus exclusive access to Williams.
Williams, 48 has been a controversial character going into rehab in 2007 after taking speed, acid, heroin, cocaine and a host of prescription drugs.
According to an interview with the Daily Mail, Williams had said in 2009 that he would do 20 Vicodin a night. Then I would take Adderall, which was like speed for people with ADHD. I’d be doing colossal, heart-stopping amounts of that.
“You can buy Sativa, which is basically LSD for five minutes. It’s powerful stuff. That’s where I was. You try your best to balance them off against each other but you never manage it. It was the American addiction. Prescription pills. It wasn’t the best period of my life. You see Anna Nicole Smith goes off-pills. Michael Jackson goes off-pills. And Heath Ledger. I can relate to all of that.”
Williams said his battle with drugs started in his teens.
“When I started going clubbing at 16 we were on acid. Then acid and speed. Then it progressed into cocaine. Before the acid, heroin. I did that once,” he added.
