Gerard Pique

Latino singer Shakira wrote a new year message on Sunday for her millions of fans on Instagram. It appears that the Waka Waka singer’s Instagram post sounds cryptic and it referred to her breakup with her partner Gerard Pique.

She said, “Even if our wounds are still open in this new year, time has a surgeon’s hands. Even if someone’s betrayed us, we must continue to trust others. When faced with contempt, continue to know your worth. Because there are more good people than indecent ones. More people with empathy than indifference.

Tears over Gerard Pique

“The ones who leave are fewer than the many who stay by our side. Our tears are not in vain, they water the soil our future will spring from and make us more human, so that even while suffering heartache we can continue to love,” she said on the breakup with Gerard Pique.

The 45-year-old’s declaration that she will continue to love “in the midst of heartbreak” comes after six months when the news of the breakup was made public.

“We regret to confirm that we are separating,” the Colombia native and the athlete, 35, wrote in a joint statement via Reuters in June 2022. “For the wellbeing of our children, who are our highest priority, we ask that you respect their privacy.”

In 2011 the couple started dating. Earlier in December, there were reports that Shakira caught Pique having an affair. The then couple did not address the claims at that time.

Gerard Pique and Shakira share sons Milan, now 9 and Sasha, now 7. Pique and Shakira were together for more than ten years but they never got married. Us Weekly exclusively confirmed in November 2022 that the pair worked out a custody agreement.

While details of the arrangement are unknown, a source exclusively revealed to Us, “Shakira and their sons will be moving to Miami.”

The Grammy Award winner has been trying to prioritize her sons amid the tumultuous split.

“It’s been tough not only for me, but also for my kids,” the “Hips Don’t Lie” singer told Elle in a September 2022 cover story.

Shakira’s Kids

“Incredibly difficult. … I’ve tried to conceal the situation in front of my kids. I try to do it and to protect them, because that’s my number one mission in life. But then they hear things in school from their friends or they come across some disagreeable, unpleasant news online, and it just affects them, you know?”
