A “low-alcohol” beer labelled “a royally good drink” and aptly named Harry’s Bitter has just been launched by a London pub after the release of the Harry and Meghan Netflix series.
It contains 3.9% alcohol with the bottle featuring Prince Harry’s face and a patriotic red white, and blue colour scheme.
Harry’s Bitter
The Duke of Sussex in Chiswick, London, has been selling the house ale since December but brewery chain Greene King said the idea to rebrand it using an image of Harry was the venue’s own initiative.
A source at the pub said the “Harry’s Bitter” beer was “very popular” with drinkers after the release of the Netflix docuseries.
Netflix docuseries
Harry and Meghan’s “global event’ Netflix series hit screens with the first three hour-long episodes being released. In it, the couple discussed their decisions to leave the UK and life as working royals.
The broadcast earned mixed reactions with some commentators accusing the Sussexes of being “bitter” for releasing teasers to the show just as Prince William and Kate began their tour to the US.
In the first three episodes of the docuseries, Harry accused the royals of having a ‘huge level of unconscious bias and conspiring with media to destroy Meghan. The prince also hinted about his father and brother’s choices of brides.
Similarly, Meghan claimed she got little support from Buckingham Palace as a new royal bride, saying there were no etiquette classes and she was reduced to googling the national anthem. She also said she was too scared to wear colorful clothes as she might overshadow the Queen.
Meghan’s claims were dismissed saying that she was guided by the late Queen’s trusted deputy private secretary, Samantha Cohen, as well as her ladies-in-waiting. They also explained that Meghan was offered dozens of meetings with senior officials, but refused to take their advice.
Royal expert Richard Eden said at the time: “Here it is, the day before Prince William and Catherine’s big royal event in the USA. Bitter Prince Harry and Meghan.”
Netflix said the show “explores the clandestine days of their early courtship and the challenges that led to them feeling forced to step back from their full-time roles in the institution”.
Royal commentator Rafe Heydel-Mankoo said: “Kudos to the Duke of Sussex pub in Chiswick (West London) for this beautifully British riposte to Harry & Meghan’s self-pitying Netflix show.
