Vithal Kulali, 20 years old killed his 54 years old father and chopped his body into 32 pieces, and threw the body parts into an abandoned borewell near Mudhol in the Bagalkot district.
Vithal murdered his father, Parashuram Kulali, by repetitively striking him with an iron rod. He decided to chop the body and throw the pieces for fear that he would be caught if he buried the body.
He told the police that when his father gets intoxicated, he would often abuse and attack him. The last time he was beaten, he could no longer bear the torture and murdered him.
The police used an excavator and recovered the body pieces.
Killer inspired by TV series
Another murder story took place in 2019 when a 28-year-old man strangled his 27-year-old live-in partner, chopped her body into over 30 parts, and spent the next two-three months dumping them in a forested area nearby.
Police arrested Aaftab Poonawala, a call center employee, and identified the victim as Shraddha Walkar.
Poonawala told the police he was inspired by the US TV series Dexter where the main character, a serial killer, chops up his victims.
Chopping the body
Ankit Chauhan, Additional DCP (South), Delhi Police, said, “During the course of sustained interrogation, Aaftab disclosed that he and the deceased were in a live-in relationship since 2019. They had met each other through a dating app and had frequent fights.
“They had visited hill stations in March and April and thereafter decided to stay in Delhi. On the day of the incident, the accused strangulated the deceased, cut the person into many parts, and disposed of them over a long period.”
An investigating officer said Poonawala hacked Walkar and kept the parts in small black polybags. “He also bought a new fridge and a saw that he used to chop the body.”
