Gerard Butler

Gerard Butler said that if the whole acting thing hadn’t worked out he would want to be a park ranger.

Speaking to Page Six at the premiere of his new action flick, Plane, Butler said that that was an occupation he had always had in mind.

“…Going to work in a national park as a land commissioner or something. I like the idea of being forced into – not forced into nature – but to have that as my everyday experience, to be in nature.”

The 300 actor said that this was one of the reasons he loves Scotland which is where he is from.

Gerard Butler and Scotland

“I think it’s one of the most beautiful places in the world. And often my holidays are to places like Iceland, into the middle of nowhere,” said Butler. He does however admit that Scotland doesn’t have good food.

“I think we have some interesting dishes, right? We have some historically fascinating dishes that are definitely an experience for the palate. But no, I think we’re known for other things. You know, we have our whiskeys, we have our music, our bagpipes, you know we have our kilts, but the French have their cuisine.

“The Italians have a cuisine. I would not say that it would be our first choice to say, ‘Let’s go to a Scottish restaurant’ if we’re talking about amazing, delectable cuisine right?”

Plane which premiered on January 13 is an action movie where Butler plays an airline pilot who saves his passengers from a lightning strike by landing on a war-torn island. However that is only the beginning of his problems. Dangerous rebels take the passengers hostage and the only reliable person he can count on for help is an accused murderer who is being transported by the FBI.

The film is co-written by British spy novelist Charles Cumming and directed by French genre specialist Jean Francois Richet, Plane is the kind of movie that is predictable yet engaging.
