“Hawkeye” actor Jeremy Renner is recovering from surgery after suffering “blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries” in a New Year’s Day snow plowing accident in Nevada, a spokesperson for the actor told CNN.

As of Monday evening, Renner was in the intensive care unit in “critical but stable condition,” the spokesperson said.

The 51-year-old actor has so far undergone two surgeries to address injuries he sustained in the accident.

The Marvel Avengers actor Jeremy Renner had sustained injuries over the New Year weekend and was airlifted to a hospital.

A representative for Renner told The Hollywood Reporter, “We can confirm Jeremy is in a critical but stable condition with injuries suffered after experiencing a weather-related accident while ploughing snow earlier today. (January 1).His family is with him and he is receiving excellent care.”

The Artic snowstorm has had devastating effects trapping people inside their homes with snowdrifts and causing power outages in homes and commercial buildings. The storm stretched from the Great Lakes near Canada down to the Rio Grande along the border with Mexico.

Some time before his accident Renner had tweeted, “Lake Tahoe snowfall is no joke.”

The storm is said to be one of the worst weather related disasters to hit Western New York and include hurricane level winds with heavy snow fall.

The actor is best known for his portrayal of Hawkeye in the Marvel films. He owns a home in Washoe County in Nevada which is where the heaviest snow fall was recorded on New Year’s Eve.

Jeremy Renner airlifted

The Washoe County Sheriff’s office near Reno, Nevada was called to the actor’s residence.

“Upon arrival, deputies coordinated with Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District and REMSA Health to arrange for medical transport for Jeremy Renner via care flight to a local area hospital. Mr Renner was the only involved party,” said the police in a statement.

Renner is 51 years old and has been nominated for two Oscars as well. He received nominations for his roles in The Hurt Locker (2008) and The Town (2010). He started his career with independent films like Dahmer in 2002 and Neo Ned in 2005.

He has also appeared in Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol (2011), The Bourne Legacy (2012), Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters (2013), American Hustle (2013), Mission Impossible – Rogue Nation (2015) and Arrival (2016).
