Actor Timothee Chalamet has a new accomplishment. He has become the first male to appear solo on the cover of Britain’s Vogue magazine.
Chalamet who has an eye for fashion and is known for his progressive and eclectic dress sense will appear on the cover of the October issue of Vogue. Some of his more famous looks include a harness or a shirtless suit and a backless halter neck at the Venice Film Festival.
Vogue’s editor-in-chief Edward Enninful said the decision to feature Chalamet was because of his “feverishly followed fashion persona, a style so innate and self assured that it inspires women and men alike. From shimmering genderless suiting to his daily wardrobe of vintage T-shirts and easy denim, he doesn’t like to label himself whether he’s off to a concert of caught in the glare of a thousand flashbulbs.”
In the photo shoot, he is again very out of the box experimenting with a pearl choker, a pink wig and leather trousers.
Enninful said he had wanted to feature a man for some time but was waiting for it to “feel right” and and wanted it to “feel effortless”
He also described the actors as a “modern man incarnate”.
“When we began talking about the possibility of this cover several months ago, it became immediately apparent that Timothee is just Timothee. Neither tooled nor marketed by Hollywood and fashion machines to appeal to teens or grandmothers, women or men, he is simply himself. He is a man for everybody.”
The photos were taken for two alternative covers by Steven Meisel.
Chalamet is currently acting in the cannibal love story Bones and All. He will also star in the soon to be released Willy Wonka prequel. The film is a musical about the Charlie and The Chocolate Factory character’s early life which will be out next year.
Harry Styles was the first man to appear solo on the cover of the American edition of Vogue in 2020.
