A week into her Celebration tour, in Antwerp, Belgium, Madonna said that she wasn’t feeling well at all. She spoke about her health and the fact that she almost died recently and how it has impacted her in a big way.

“Less than four months ago, I was in a hospital and I was unconscious, and people were thinking, predicting that I might not make it. So it’s a miracle that I’m here right now.”

The 65-year-old pop icon spoke about how she hasn’t fully recovered and that she hasn’t had her strength back yet. “I must tell you, I don’t feel really well right now, but I can’t complain ‘cause I’m alive,” she said.

The audience was moved by her heartfelt emotional outpouring about her personal struggles. Madonna said that the brush with death made her think of her mother who died from breast cancer at 30.

“My mother, God bless her, she must be watching over me. ‘Girl, it’s not your time to go.”

Madonna was admitted to the ICU a couple of months ago due to a bacterial infection. At the time she posted her trials on social media expressing her gratitude to her six children. Madonna’s kids comprise Lourdes, 26, Rocco Ritchie, 23, David Banda, 18, Mercy James, 17 and twins, Stela and Estere who are 11.

Madonna’s Celebration tour started in London on October 14 and will go across European countries like Copenhagen, Barcelona, Paris and Milan. Her opening night in London started with a tribute to the victims of AIDS epidemic as Madonna sang “In this Life”.

She also paid tribute to her late friend Keith Haring in a rendition of Live to Tell. Her daughter Mercy James played the piano as she sang Bad Girl from her 1992 album Erotica.

Her other daughters Lourdes, Stella and Estere also joined in to perform the Vogue number as part of Lourdes’s birthday celebration.
