Buffy, Star of The Vampire Slayer Sarah Michelle Gellar has made a comeback to acting to set an example for the next generation, including her daughter.
The 45-year-old actor, who spent more than 20 years playing the lead in the popular TV show, is back in the high school horror genre in the Netflix film “Do Revenge” and the upcoming series “Wolf Pack.” She claimed that her daughter, who aspires to follow in her footsteps, served as her inspiration.
But she recently said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that she won’t allow her daughter to appear on camera until she is 18 and has moved out of the house.
The Cruel Intentions actress discussed the acting guidelines she has in place for her oldest child in the interview. She and husband Freddie Prinze Jr., 46, are parents to Charlotte, 13, and Rocky, 10.
Gellar on Charlotte
‘Does it scare the s*** out of me? Well, we have rules in place. She can’t be in front of a camera until she graduates high school,’ Sarah – who recently called the set of Buffy The Vampire Slayer ‘toxic’ – shared.
The actress went on: ‘She says to me, “That’s unfair. You were a child actor.” Yes, I was. But I was not the child of two famous parents.’
Gellar began her career in acting for television when she was in her mid-teens and began playing Buffy when she was in her early twenties.
The Scooby Doo actress continued, saying that while she would “never stop” Charlotte from following in her footsteps, it would not happen while Charlotte is still “living under her roof.”
‘I’ll never stop her from being on a set. But she’s just not going on camera while she’s living under our roof. There’ll be different expectations for her, so she needs to learn everything there is first.’
No social media
Besides that restriction, Gellar also said that she will not allow her daughter to use social media until she is older and can ‘understand’ the nature of having an online platform.
She said: ‘My son doesn’t care. That’s not his world. It’s definitely something my daughter and I discuss. It’s an ever-evolving conversation.’
‘Obviously, there will be a time when I can’t say no anymore because I’ll be keeping her away from the way her generation communicates. But I also need to wait until she gets to a point where she understands the permanence of what you put out there.’
The mother-of-two previously compared the permanence of a post to allowing her children to get face tattoos and added, ‘Our rules are probably stricter than most.’
‘Our kids don’t have social media,’ the star explained. ‘They’re allowed to look sometimes when it’s our phones. Sometimes, our kids will be like “you guys are the strictest household!” But I say, “yes, but everyone still wants to come here!”‘
Gellar also compared allowing her kids to post online to getting a Paw Patrol tattoo on their face in an interview with Yahoo Life’s So Mini Ways.
‘Because at that age, there’s nothing better than Paw Patrol. And now you’re 10 and [13], and you still have these tattoos on your face and it’s not even who you are anymore. That’s a very hard concept for young kids to grasp.’
Gellar explained that an environment with limitations fosters better conditions for children to thrive in.
Kids have their limitations
‘I believe kids need to know what their limitations are, and they actually thrive in that environment.’
‘We’re not mean, we’re not unnecessarily strict, but we have rules. And the same way I abide by my code of rules, I expect the same from our children,’ she added.
Over the years, the Buffy actress has undoubtedly been cautious of her kids and has avoided posting pictures of them online.
Last year, she made a surprise appearance in the Netflix movie Do Revenge during a special screening, and she took the unusual decision to pose with her daughter Charlotte at the Hollywood Roosevelt hotel, where the reception was held.
Inside the event, Charlotte was seen giving her famous mother an air kiss on the cheek.
