Taxi driver’s heart-warming act wins praise

When a taxi driver saw traffic being backed up causing a jam while picking up passengers on Orchard Road, he stopped using the meter to pay the fare, saying, “Uncle comes from poor family, money is not easy to make, so don’t worry, if I can help, I help.” He act of kindness has won the praise of many people.

The passenger, Laila White, posted on social media Facebook that she took a taxi at ION Orchard (ION Orchard) on the 25th of November when there was a traffic jam.

Lim Kek Wah, a 70-year-old taxi driver with the license plate number of SHF754G, told her the road was a nightmare at this hour, so he would stop metering until traffic cleared.

Mr Lim also revealed that he comes from a poor family and it is not easy to make money. “So don’t worry, I will help if I can.”

Mr Lim shared with her that his father passed away when he was ten years old, so he dropped out of school, shouldered the responsibility of taking care of the family, and had no time to worry, worry or pursue his hobbies. He worked as a coolie in Clarke Quay since he was a child carrying 100kg rice bags on his back for 20 cents a bag.

Laila White said that she was very moved when she heard it, and choked up. Although Mr Lim stopped using the meter when he was in a traffic jam, she gave him the extra fare when she arrived at the destination, not out of sympathy, but to thank Mr Lim for what he had taught her.

Laila’s post has been shared over 1,000 times and there are over 1,600 likes for her post. A number of Facebook users thanked Laila for sharing about the taxi driver’s kindness. Many remarked that it is very difficult to find such a kind soul.
