The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) said actions are being taken after a passenger on a city bus captured video of a bed bug infestation. Facebook user Crystal Lopez in sharing the viral video, said how the commuters may have bought the bed bugs home.

She captioned her video: “So I would like to share with everyone what I experienced on the #26 #septabus yesterday this is disgusting this goes to show that septa is not clean you know how many people I’m sure took bed bugs home with them yesterday this is unacceptable I definitely made a complaint to the septa supervisor.”

Lopez told a local TV channel that she boarded the SEPTA bus with her daughters, ages 3 and 11, on Wednesday when she felt a burning sensation on her arm.

She said: “Right before I was to pull the cord, I feel like this itching, burning feeling on my arm. It was in its entirety from my wrist to my armpit. I felt like my arm was on fire, like my whole arm was on fire and itching all at once.”

Lopez added that her allergic reaction to the bites required a doctor visit.

SEPTA officials said the bus was taken out of service after officials became aware of Lopez’s experience. The authority said buses are treated by exterminators once a month to prevent prolonged infestations and crews are in the process of replacing upholstered bus seats with plastic, which is a less suitable environment for bed bugs.
